Glaciovolcanic lithofacies art print

from £12.00

What happens when lava meets a glacier?

Normally, it produces three different kinds of rock (or lithofacies). First, when the lava is still covered by ice, subglacial basalt is formed. Then, as the heat melts the glacier, the eruption becomes explosive and creates hyaloclastite. Finally, when it breaches the water surface, subaerial lava erupts. And if you find a hill made of these three rocks, it’s called a tuya - a subglacial volcano!

This print features three original gouache illustrations inspired by real specimens Vojta studied on Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland. They are arranged in a vintage poster-inspired format.

Digitally printed on archival, acid-free paper made from 100% cotton fibre in the UK. Pictured is the A4 variant.
