A volcano a day…
The volcanoes that make up this poster were originally illustrated over 26 consecutive days in August and September 2021. I was in a bit of an art slump at that time, so I decided to take on a little art challenge to help me get out of it.
I knew I didn’t want just to draw a bunch of random volcanoes, though. From that thought, the idea of drawing a volcano for each letter of the alphabet was born. But which of the 1500+ volcanoes found on Earth should I include? Some research was needed. Scouring through various databases and available images, I managed to narrow it down to 26 volcanoes. And the simplified style they are drawn in was heavily influenced by vintage travel posters, which I adored at that time.
Today, Volcanoes of the World is my all-time best-selling print. Funnily enough, I never intended to sell the twenty-six illustrations in any form. It was just a fun art challenge. But seeing how well they were received on Instagram, I decided to turn them into the poster you see today (and I’m really glad I did)!
